Philosophy of Futures Science

Philosophy of science seeks to describe and understand how science works within the sciences. As such, the philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy concerned with science in general, and/or the ways science develops, and/or the foundations, methods, and implications of a specific science. The central questions concern what counts as science, the reliability of scientific theories, and the purpose of science. The philosophy of science can overlap with metaphysics, ontology and epistemology, for example, when it explores the relationship between science and truth. In addition, it may also focus on issues raised by the relations between individual sciences and by individual sciences themselves. However, there is no consensus on several main questions dealing with the philosophy of science. According to Malaska (2009), exploring futures is an issue of philosophy of science which aims at defining the truth and understanding special characteristics of “futures” as a research target, which is abstract by nature. In order to leave space for futures research among other sciences, there is a need for redefining scientific knowledge. “Futures” is only evolving in terms of the times to follow. It has not been realized yet, but it only exists on the mental level, in close relation to human imagination and thinking.
